Dr Sophie CARENCO |
Sophie Carenco graduated from Ecole Polytechnique, Palaiseau in 2008. She obtained her PhD in 2011 from Sorbonne Université, Paris, for her work on the synthesis and applications of metal phosphide nanoparticules, under the co-supervision of Pr. Clément Sanchez and Dr. Nicolas Mézailles. From 2012 to 2013, she was a post-doctoral fellow at Laurence Berkeley National Lab, Berkley, California, in the group of Pr. Miquel Salmeron, where she used synchrotron-based in situ spectroscopies (ambiant-pressure XPS, hight pressure XAS) to monitor the surface state of (bi)metallic nanoparticules during catalytic reactions. In 2014, she joined CNRS as a researcher in the "laboratoire de chimie de la Matière Condensée de Paris" (LCMCP), associated with Sorbonne Université and Collège de France. She works on a novel synthetic routes of unconventional nanomaterials for energy-relevant challenges such as CO2 valorisation. In 2017, she was awarded an ERC Starting Grant to work on small molecules activation at the surface of nanoparticules. She was awarded the European Young Chemist Award form EuCheMs in 2010 and the C'Nano National Award in 2012 for her PhD work. More recently, she was awarded the Bronze Metal of CNRS, the Jean Rist Medal of SF2M and the Young Chemist Award of SCF-DCP. She is also involved in science public outreach and published in 2012 a short book about nanomaterials and chemistry. Loic Charbonnière obtained a PhD in chemistry from the University of Geneva in 1996 and joined the French Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) in Strasbourg as associate researcher in 1998. In 2009, he created what is now the SynPA team (Synthesis for analytical applications) and since 2011, he is reasearch director at the CNRS. His main scientific interests concern coordination chemistry, supramolecular chemistry, nannopaticule synthesis and luminescence spectroscopy, with a particular curiosity for the development of lanthanide based devices and their numerous applications in the fields of analysis, diagnostic and imaging.
